I got nothing done last night; I was glued to the live feed out of Malheur where the last 4 holdouts were pretty much losing their hold on reality as the FBI had had enough and moved in. (No, darlings, "America" was not "rising up" to "start the revolution" to save your asses. TAKE THE HINT.)

Finally I went to bed late. Come morning, the entertaining feed was over but archived (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cOlrSain0lk) - all 4.5 hours of it.

(I kind of get why people used to tour insane asylums now. It's not humane... but it's fascinating.)

But what was even more entertaining than the feed was the news that Cliven Bundy left his armed sedition HQ ranch to "help" save the mess he and his boys started -- and got his ass arrested without a hail of bullets.

Well played, FBI! Well played!

It occurs to me that all these folks trying to ignite a revolution in the United States, whether it's Helter Skelter or Obama, consistently and completely underestimate the inertia of the people who live here. Even if the top layer of things get stirred up enough to make a token change, nothing really seems to get the kind of response these folks expect.

That seemed to be sinking in on Wednesday night - it wasn't 13 minutes before David Fry started screaming "Fuck America!" because America was so very stubbornly not doing what he wanted it to do.

It seemed to be a big thrill when 1000 people started listening to the feed, and mindblowing when 75,000 dialed in. And while they were so very excited that All! Those! People! were paying attention, they had no grasp that 1) not everyone was on their side; some were dialing in for the eyeroll factor and 2) that's, what, the population of a smallish city? One city?

It's probably a good thing I'm on the last few days of deadline hell, otherwise I'd have been watching it too.

As it is, I relied on Twitter to give me the highlights...

Twitter was distracting, but there is a lot to be said about getting the batshit straight from the source.

Cliven Bundy's arrest (and the others) was long overdue. They need to get that million dollars or so that he owes the US taxpayers in unpaid grazing fees, among other federal offenses. I'm sick of these bozos who think that "the American people" means just them, and the FBI and other authorities who think that waving guns and yelling about "freedom" means you can get away with anything. They should have barricaded the vandals in over a month ago and starved them out.

As for touring the asylum:

"When you’re born in this world, you’re given a ticket to the freak show. When you’re born in America, you’re given a front row seat. And some of us get to sit there with notebooks…." — George Carlin

Good quote. I've been listening to the full Malheur rantings and wow. Just wow. It's not even that "you" can get away with anything -- just THEY can get away with anything. And they're totally innocent victims when called on acting like toddlers.

Letting Bundy get away with it led directly to Malheur. But now we got Bundy without a single shot. And that's important too.
