Spoilery Heroes Squee )

In short, Heroes rocks more than a geology college in a quarry.

More musings on my stuff - fannish this time - and a poll because people like tickyboxes )

We will return to our regularly scheduled Who squee soonish. If nothing else, one of the new shelves has become a "fandom du jour" shrine with all the videos and tie-in books. V. handy to have them all at once; I'm thinking to see if the DWMs will fit somewhere there as well.

Your Daily Dose of Smartass

Have you heard about "Conservapedia," the conservative answer to the uberliberal, anti-Christian Wikipedia?

No, seriously. Google it. But while it has started out with the noble intent of saving a nation's children from "Darwinism" masquerading as a tested scientific theory and British spelling, it didn't take long for people to get their tongues into their cheeks and their fingers on the keyboard. My personal favorite is the nod to Pharyngula: The Pacific Northwest Arboreal Octopus. Quite educational. Also, perfectly spelled.

And since the best way of making an armchair scientist waste time on the web is to say something can't be done (call it "Mythbusters - the Home Game"), I bring you an empirical study about the feasibility of securing gelatin to a vertical surface by means of manually impacted cylindrical metal fasteners.

Yes, Virginia, they nailed jello to a wall. With pictures. (For the crime writers reading this, if you scroll down far enough you'll find a recipe for homemade ballistics gel, which is worth the price of admission right there.)

And people think the scientific method is boring and stodgy!

I don't remember which ad or video used Scissor Sisters "Don't Feel Like Dancin'" but I've been grooving to that on my iPod all day now...

VHS

On the assumption that if y'all keep voting in my stuff polls you might actually be interested in what I do, the final criteria for the VHS tapes has been twofold:

1: Is it available on DVD? (DUDE! There's a special edition of Muppet Treasure Island!)
2: Can I live without it while I wait to be able to buy the DVD?

If the answer to either is "no," I'm keeping the VHS. As a result, my collection is down by about 1/4 to 1/3. Next pass is going to be the 18-month pass; I'm surprised at the number of things that I bought because I thought I "ought" to have them or I collected them, but I don't feel a need to have them anymore. (For example, I love Disney. But not to the point of rewatching Cinderella in the last three years, so Cindy's on the pile, while Little Mermaid's coming home on DVD this week.)

And my Amazon wish list is now huge...
