Clicky Boxes
May. 4th, 2007 09:22 amLong story short: I've had a crap week and am looking for a frugal indulgence. I'm meeting more and more people who know me as a screenname instead of by name, which is cool, but this isn't the most pronouncable of screennames. And damn if the username I was fairly seriously thinking of changing to a couple years ago is still up for grabs. Which I think is A Sign.
[Poll #978545]
(Yes, I'm using radio buttons this time, it always frustrates me when y'all check contradictory boxes.)
Nushu is a form of womens'-only writing that rose in China when they refused to let the women write and read "man's" language. The argument against it last time was mainly that I was stealing from a culture which I otherwise know nothing about. The argument for it was that stealing from other cultures (especially stealing words) is about as American as you can be, and if I thought it was shiny, that was enough.
The attraction is that it sums up a couple things that are very important to me - literacy and feminism - in something that is much easier to pronounce and type than "theurgetoreadandwriteandforwomentoexpressthemselveswillalwaysfindawaysomehownomatterwhattheodds."
For those following the soap opera that is my life at the moment, the score stands at:
Gutters: they swear they'll be cleaned today
Car: unknown
Malice Domestic: also having a bad time of it; they had my goodiebag of books but not my badge, which I must pick up on Saturday. Gone back to the basic black-and-red tote, with a front flat zip pocket, two water bottle holders, and a business card slot. And pen holders. Very important, those penholders.
ETA: Wow, and last time nushu was quite popular. On the other hand,
starcat_jewel and
nycdeb have managed to comment with a couple of home truths which have killed my interest in changing pretty dead.
But I'm leaving the poll up, because otters are cute. *changes icon on post*
