Dr. Tiller's clinic closes
Jun. 9th, 2009 05:22 pmSadder news than the murder of Dr. Tiller is the news that the extremists have gotten what they wanted. His clinic has been permanently closed.
This doesn't end abortion. It doesn't even end late-term abortion. There are other doctors, even now. If (and I hope so) a new clinic opens, it may be in a city and state where it is easier to travel to and the state's attorney isn't making a grandstand case out of throwing charge after charge hoping something sticks, which will be better for both doctor and patients. But that's a lot of maybes.
In the meantime, a new anti-birth control push has begun, announcing that the pill, which has been used widely and effectively for decades, is a chemical abortion that will cause breast cancer.
Last night, I joined the local clinic defense task force and took escort training. I was not the only person who cited Dr. Tiller's memory as the reason why they were there.
