Sherlock Fic Rec

A mixed bunch this week.

EXACTLY WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN:

Nominations for the best of the kinkmeme I'm not even going to pretend I have the time to read it now..._

Five Times Sherlock Listened to John's Heartbeat and One Time John Listened to Sherlock's_ Six very different scenarios with six different emotional tones. Assumes established J/S, but nothing graphic (if it weren't for a single word, I'd even say SFW)

Five Times Mrs Holmes’ Heart Broke Over Her Younger Son_ Five instances of heartbreak over Sherlock's damaged life, and a sweet epilogue. (Technically, if you listen to the dialog in SiP she's dead and this should be listed under AU. But I'll handwave that for this, mostly because I'm a sucker for young Sherlock stuff.)

AU:

The two parts of Waking You Up_ (second link on page) are probably more intriguing if you haven't seen the Futurama episode that the author admits the idea was swiped from. I hadn't, so I like it.

It's hardly a spoiler to say that Sherlock and John will survive The Great Game or there wouldn't be a second season, much less a possibility of more. So I'm lumping this dark double feature under AU:
I Meet You There and We Go, where Sherlock flips between slowly bleeding out on a swimming pool floor and an old age keeping bees plus The Half Open Window, how all their friends deal with their deaths.

MISC:

Till Your Presence of Body, which I am recommending solely because the line "Oh god, he's nesting. With maggots" made me laugh like a loon. Mycroft explains why Sherlock thinks a few bits of morgue take-away make a house a home.

Layer at a Time_ John slowly gets to know Anthea.

What Happens When the Heart Just Stops John has a panic attack. Written by someone who knows what they're talking about.

Beginnings; Lestrade's view of John during the events of SiP. I cannot for the life of me understand why the author lists it as "Lestrade/Watson" because it's gen. (This is also the fandom that calls gen "pre-slash," so frankly, there's a really fundamental misunderstanding of what both "gen" and "/" mean.)

Weaving in the Ends_ Another John knits story; this one assumes he actually knows what he's doing and has experience. The author sums it up: "I have this suspicion that most of the people who will enjoy this fic will be knitters." I am. I do.

Our Days Begin With Trouble I'm going to let the beginning of the story explain it all:
Sarah Jane opened the door and stared at the two men in front of her. The taller one was beaming at her with a smile so mad and alien, for a moment she thought it was the Doctor's new regeneration...while the shorter blond was trying to look inoffensive and harmless... "I'm here to ask you about the aliens."

NOT SAFE FOR WORK:

I'm throwing in this link because it's so unusual: Stop. So many people assume the first time is good, or even something one of the participants wants to repeat. This is the other side of the story.

NOT A REC, AN ARCHIVE:

The first chapter of Drowning looks promising. Now I need to find the time to read it...

Ignore the _s y'all. They're notes to myself.

Saturday Sherlock: A Study in Scarlet, Chapters 4-6

The game is... well, not afoot, but becoming familiar!
