I'm slowly becoming more feminine. The original prodding was [livejournal.com profile] shayheyred's, although now I'm freakishly stalker-like imitating following rather closely in [livejournal.com profile] fandance's footsteps. Since she knows what she's doing, this is not a bad thing. But it feels odd for someone who, in the words of Stupina, is "NOT a girlie-girl!"

Fandance cropped her hair, and after I said a bunch of rather stupid things in my shock (I sometimes wonder why anybody likes me, I really do) I thought, "y'know... that's a really great look." So off mine came too, with Fandance quite nicely serving as a living model. I've been keeping it quiet so I could surprise a few people, but on the whole, I like it a lot. I'm going to keep this cut for a while, instead of my usual "okay, it's cut, I'm going to go back to growing it now" attitude. I'm just never going to have that long healthy thick rennie hair I want, alas.

Next up is apparently going to have to be fake nails. I was resisting that quite strongly (as F, who has them, can attest)... until one of mine ripped across the quick a few days ago. Nothing like healing *that* to make one reassess one's positions. I'm thinking I'll drop by the boutique and get them Friday so they'll be all nice for the holiday.

Weight and wardrobe are next; the first to be dealt with beginning Jan 2 (it's Christmas, not Lent!) and the second to be sewn through the year.

On the other hand, I've had to stop using Burt's Bees on my face because something - I don't know yet if it was the cleanser, the repair serum, the overnight cream or the moisturizer - was making me break out. So we go cold turkey until the face clears, and then start over, one thing at a time.

I'm not entirely sure if I'm metamorphing or just growing up.

You're loving yourself. And that's a good thing.

You're experimenting. Some things you'll find that you like enough to keep doing; others you'll probably decide aren't worth the trouble. Neither decision is any more "grown up" than the other.

My tried-and-true method for dealing with nails that have broken into the quick is, wrap 'em with a bandaid until they grow out far enough to cut. If it's just a tiny split, sometimes a coat or two of topcoat will stabilize it enough not to catch on things and tear.

I had it in a bandaid for a while, and filed it, and cut back the nail so it wouldn't catch, but in the end, the only way to keep it from catching and ripping (or keeping my finger in a bandaid for a month) was to gingerly peel off the damaged bit.

But this happened while driving, and because I opened a CD case. Enough is enough! I'll try acrylics for a while. I'm going to have to be going in the area of the salon fairly often anyway, because the haircut is the kind that can't go too long without attention.

Next up - looking into permanent hair removal, because the whole razor vs. shave thing is so annoying.

My dermatologist recommended for my rosacea to use Cetaphil cleanser. THey also make a moisturizer which is for gentle skin. You might try that instead of Burts.

I also use Fincerea which has really, really helped with the rosacea.

Nails I have problems with -- I keep them well cut back, but my skin is so dry these days that I am always slathering on lotion.
