I never know how to say this sort of thing, so since I'm not known for my tact, I'm just going to blurt it out. I'm going to do a bit of a friends list cut.

No, I haven't stopped being interested, no I haven't stopped liking you - it's just that when it takes close to three hours to keep up with normal daily traffic, it's time to do some trimming. (Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] who_daily and [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_three I can do some community trimming as well.)

For those who have friended me, I hope it's because you like reading this journal and not out of a sense of obligation. There is very little locked, so even after the cuts, you won't see very much disappearing.

Flist filters are your friends... ;) That way you can keep people on your friends list but just not necessarily have their journal (or the comm) appearing on your flist every day. You could save some filters for once a week, say, making keeping up on a daily basis easier.

I know, but that's always struck me as being somehow dishonest when used on people - "you think I'm reading you, but I only do about once a month."

About to start the cutting now, but it's not a bloodbath (outside the communities, which are going to drop like flies. Thank you, Who Daily & Torchwood 3!) I'm only cutting a fraction of people, mostly because they and I are just heading in alternate directions.

You're staying. :>

I feel the same way, but so long as I have everyone on my "default" view but the comms (well, and the knitting comms and bloggers get their own filter), I don't feel guilty about having a "No Time" filter for when I've gone on vacation or otherwise been away from LJ for longer than a weekend. (And a "Fuck it" filter for when I've utterly given up on properly reading back on what hit during a two-week vacation or some such.)

I'd never get anything done it I tried to keep up after 2 weeks away! (Which means I'm going to be utterly clueless when I get back from Italy at the end of September. Hope the internet will still be there!)

I've seen people were off LJ a long time make posts basically announcing to their friends list that they were on vacation/had computer or internet issues/had RL eat up their online time and requesting that they be told of anything significant that occurred while they were out. Which is nice in terms of both making a blanket apology for having missed everything and finding out some of the noteworthy events.
