Y'all were so helpful when I asked for chicken recipes and pasta recipes that I'm back picking your collective brains again.

I need sandwich ideas. There's only so often I can eat turkey and mayo or ham, devilled or otherwise. I need packable sandwich ideas, the kind of thing that will go nicely with a cup of soup or a salad. (Ideas of a good soup to pair the sandwich with appreciated, although I really only eat three of them - Italian wedding soup, tomato, and butternut squash.)

Nothing peanut butter-based, please. I eat peanut butter for breakfast.

I used to have this amazing sandwich at the vegetarian Chinese restaurant in college. I've never tried to duplicate it, but I'll toss the idea out to you and see how you go. Whole grain bread, carrot-cream cheese (but it would probably be great with Hummus as well), broccoli and cashews. There may have been cheddar cheese in it as well. And possibly black olives. But it was the broccoli and cashews I remember most clearly. I'd never had fresh broccoli before then - what a revelation to discover broccoli wasn't supposed to be dark green, smelly and limp!

Another favorite is a bagel with cream cheese (either veggie or plain), thinly sliced seedless cucumber, thinly sliced tomato, and sprouts. My "farmer's market" special.

Uncooked broccoli tends to give me gas, but the rest looks interesting.

Speaking of unexpected things in sandwiches, back when I was Jr. Year Abroad in London there was a sandwich shop that did a chicken curry salad with raisins. There was just something very unexpected about the raisins... although come to think of it...

I just did something much like this (see my recipe in Homekeeping), only it was a curried mango chicken salad. But it also had raisins in it (I think I put pineapple in mine as well). Seriously yummy - I may have to make it again.

Chicken, pesto, mozzerella, lettuce. Works great in a wrap.

Honey mustard. It makes everything yummy. My own fave: turkey, brie, and bean sprouts on whole grain (good crust a must) with honey mustard.

I love pimiento cheese, but not everyone agrees with me. However, if you do like it, it's worth checking at the grocery store to see if they have a packaged brand that's any good. My current favorite is the one off the deli counter at Central Market. Add lettuce or a little sliced onion if you want more flavors in the mix.

It's all about the bread. My current favorite is a nice light rye, sliced Melba-thin.

Use homemade goat cheese as your spread. *grins*

Seriously though, the sandwich places here on campus have this lovely cilantro mayo that really perks up a sandwich. And I like to use the Gormayo horseradish/wasabi spread on my sandwiches. It hides the flavor of the veggie cheese quite nicely. Ooo! And if you have one of those mini grills (a George Foreman or otherwise), try grilling your sandwich first. When you get to work, just pop it in the microwave to reheat the insides, and it's pretty tasty.

I've got a drawerful of assorted cheeses I need to use first! There's the cream cheese. And the little individual babybell things that look so darling in a bento (and are a bit meh to eat: I foresee a quiet end in assorted salads). And then that incredible smoked cheddar from the Farmer's market...

I'm a wrap fiend. I buy several packages in different flavors, open them up and insert a piece of waxed paper in between each tortilla and throw in the freezer that way I can defrost only one of whichever I have a craving for. Then I grill a few chicken breasts in a variety of marinades and slice thin. From there, it depends on what's leftover in the fridge. Lettuce, chicken, maybe a dollop of humas and roasted pepper is fabulous. Leftover grilled veggies are good, I've tossed in warmed over chili and cheese which is yummy. Basically, leftover meat of any kind, leftover veg that compliments and some sort of dressing - honey mustard, ranch, or something spicy.

It's like a sandwhich casserole!

I really like BAST sandwiches, bacon/avocado/spinach/tomato, on lightly toasted whole-grain bread. The way to pack them is to put the fillings in one baggie and the bread in a separate one, and assemble the sandwich just before eating. This would go nicely with the butternut squash soup.

When I was in Japan, most of the sandwiches I ate had a surprise scoop of egg salad in them (very finely minced eggs). It's a nice way to spice up a ham or turkey and mayo sandwich - replace the mayo with a few tablespoons of egg salad.

Not much of a change, but it may be enough to keep your taste buds interested.
