I've been looking at other food studies in the local area. Even if I decide against the cranberry study, I'm going to keep an eye on other ones at the same place. I wish I'd been called for the garlic one! Not only do I like garlic better than cranberries, it was only 22 days of controlled diet.

But I'm really posting to say that I have indulged. I was at Caplan's in Old Town Ellicott City, measuring stained glass for the bathroom. And I saw this piece...

I've got nowhere to put it. It will slightly clash with my chosen colors. I'm supposed to be saving money for Stratford.

But sometimes "I want it and I have the money today" is reason enough.

My Mother will smile and say "It's your house, dear," in a tone that adds "Thank God I'll not be looking at that very often," but it's exactly how I want to do the whole house.

of course you have somewhere to put it.

you may have to create the "someplace" but you have it....

its a very nice piece... you coudl build it up with plain or frosted glass to fit a larger space....

I'm not sure I dare build it up; it's already fragile and heavy. But because it's mostly opaque glass - that shot was taken on a bed - it will show to advantage even against a wall.

After a night's sleep, I know *exactly* where to put it - the window of the library that overlooks the next house over. It's already a darkish window, so I won't be losing a lot of light by putting opaque glass over it, but I will be getting some light behind the stained glass and adding some privacy between the houses. It won't even matter that it slightly clashes with the new paint colors because I'm leaving the library in classic cream and oak. This will tie in the redecorating design without having to put in a lot of extra detail effort.

The downside is, it will have to live under my dresser where it is flat and safe until the library is emptied out and the floor refinished before I can hang and enjoy it - and that's not slated until the end of the year.

I'm getting a very Art Deco, almost Frank Lloyd Wright impression off this piece. NICE!

I adore it. It's the style I want to spread through the whole house.

I approve! Reminds me of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Deco, but with a refined organic sweep to it.

I'm going to be leaning heavily on Mackintosh design in all of the stencilling.

That's the artist I was about to invoke.

Yes, that's the style - I recognized
it right off. A very good rendition.

Beautiful, Nea!

And is there anywhere you can hang or just stand it up in your bedroom, perhaps? Somewhere where it can act as an inspiration until it finds it's permanent home?

Gytha broke a lamp two days ago - she's not getting a chance at a piece like this! I'm enjoying the picture until it's ready for installation in the library.

Score! Exactly right that sometimes, "I want it and right now I can afford to get it," is all you need. Especially if it fits so perfectly with how you want to decorate the house.

I look at it as serendipity.
