Though at that point in history, I think the only Americans who hadn't been born as British citizens would have been the ones born since the Revolution -- or the ones who'd immigrated from countries other than the UK. (Unless the colonists weren't being counted as British citizens even when they still were British colonies, though I suspect they were.)
