Post-election post

It's no good my discussing the election and trying to parse what the fuck just happened and what the fuck will happen. But what I can do and will do is suggest a course of action that can be taken by anyone in any country who is worried about things spinning out of control

1) Give yourself a holiday present of a subscription to a newspaper to support investigative journalism. Also give yourself 52+ sheets of professional looking stationery w/envelopes, a nice pen, 3 books of stamps.

2) Make this New Year's resolution: To sign up for the "take action" emails of at least one lobbying group that you support and to TAKE THE ACTION at least once a week. Make the call. Use the stationery.

First they came for the Muslims, and we said "Not this time, motherfuckers!"

Good plan.

For the first time in my life, I am sooooooo tempted to write in a library book. I am currently reading BAD DAYS IN HISTORY, which goes through the calendar day by day and describes something grim, dumb, or awful for each day. The entry for November 8 is about Cortes being invited into Tenochtitlan by Moctezuma. I SO want to scribble a note beside that which says, "needs updating."

But I won't.

We (liberal thinkers) in the UK didn't think it was possible for the Conservatives to win the last election, but they did; perhaps we should all have taken that as a wake-up call. I'm sorry about the USA election result and I sincerely hope the worst case scenarios I'm seeing don't happen. Either way, the best opposition to hatred is, always, love and peace. Democrats need to find their next president RIGHT NOW, and start promoting him/her. Four years' time may be too late. IMHO, of course.
