They're all struck by the double standard -- it's okay for fanfic writers to steal your work, but if they see something similar to one of their stories in your book they'll threaten to sue (or write very nasty letters).
I'd say that sums it up pretty well. I'd have a problem with that sort of thing too, if I were a writer.
I'm also struck by the fact that, out of 5 major issues mentioned in the article, exactly ONE is getting comments, and they're all "Wow, why does this guy hate fanfic so much?" when actually, what he said was pretty damn mild. I guess this is the Republican influence at work -- if you're not squeeing over fanfic, then you must HATE HATE HATE it, just like if you don't support the appointment of Christian-activist judges then you must be a goddamn Satanist liberal.
