Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's feast for me!

Saturday turned into an exercise in keeping yourself open for the possibilities. I'd expected to have a rather thin time at Chort's pirate feast - all my companions backed out at the last moment, and no matter how rowdy things are around you, it's always less interesting alone.

Instead, I had a splendid time, as always. The table is always groaning - this year there was an amazing coq au vin and corn cake along with the potatoes boiled in butter, the huge vat of honey butter and a tableful of assorted breads, curry, rice, cheeses, beef stew, ham, and shortbread. (Note: Always take a couple of ziploc bags to Chort's feast. Always!)

I ended up sitting next to an old housemate I hadn't seen in person for a couple of years and her family, talking with the other wench in the room, and being invited to dance (which was lovely and I'm glad I did it, but it blew out both knees... the real reason I left early was because it was suddenly hard to navigate the stairs anymore! But SO worth it!)

I even learned a new game. There was fake gambling for faker jewels going on, a dice game called "trinidado" (or so it sounded like). Sort of a cosmic wimpout in reverse; you try to roll the lowest number in a round. Five regular dice, and each time you roll in a turn you take out the lowest scoring die (two if there's a matching pair) and keep going. Threes = 0; everything else is face value.

Chort's been inspired by Team Wench. Not only is he giving his profits to our Pirate Feast for breast cancer research, he was calling for support for a pirate-themed rest stop on a friend's MS walk.

Also, the wardrobe that I wrestled with at Ikea for this time last year has finally served its purpose just as I dreamed - I went down in my bathrobe and could pull out my costume and put it on. No washing, no mending, no ironing - everything ready to go. (The LJ-less T was on the phone with me before I went down and started laughing at me. "You can tell you're a costumer. It's not 'I'm going to go put on my pirate costume,' it's 'I'm going to go down and figure out what I'm going to wear.'")

Today, life is still good. I'm inside and warm watching the snow come down, and although I had to turn down the invite because T is coming by for Torchwood, [livejournal.com profile] boogiebabe_smap is home and sounding chipper, and off to dinner (and knowing them, shopping) with [livejournal.com profile] shawan7. I'm glad they're both getting out and about... although I'm also pretty glad to be snug and warm and watching the snow fall.

(Next week I hope the weather's better. I'm going to take advantage of the electronics recycling drop day to not only get rid of a couple of old computers and far too many old printers, but the entire contents of the Graveyard of Dead Technology. I had been holding it for future doll house parts, but y'know? By the time I get to the doll house, I'll have other dead technology.)

Until T shows, I should be looking at my mending basket. Although I'm learning that I'll go to extraordinary lengths to do anything BUT deal with my mending.

I don't know if this was even a ship - Chort's got a lot of connections in Markland and I'm assuming it was a Marklander who was walking.

Totally different subject - you've still got that Behind the Scenes @ the BBC Vol 1 you want rid of? I'll bring $ to the TW PF, or would you be interested in trading? I have spare copies of Neverland, and unopened spare copies of Zagreus, Chime of Midnight, Scherzo, Next Life, Faith Stealer, and Caerdroia if you want to do a straight trade. Also 4 Dalek Empires.

By "ship" I wasn't referring to Chort, but to one of the 5 Privateers Guild ships from within the MDRF-Guild core. The sunday of the MS Challenge Walk, they had a stand set up in Baltimore.

I'm interested in Chimes and Scherzo (*especially* Scherzo - i have no idea what's happened on McGann's timeline since Zagreus).

Wanna swap even up for the BBC thing & Scherzo? And let's see... trying to think of a fair price for Chimes. I'm bloodly rolling in copies of Chimes, I somehow ended up with 4 of them!

PS - As soon as another Ebay lot comes in and the stuff that I broke down and ordered from BF direct, I'm going to have the full suite of monthly audios except for the older special subscriber stuff. We can talk...
