And now for something completely trivial

What is it with purses with short straps? Straps so short you can't swing them onto your shoulder, you have to pull them up your arm... where they will either fall off your shoulder or cut off your circulation.

I was looking for the perfect purse du jour and found it - right size, right configuration, right price - and the strap was about 3" too short to be comfortable.

Which is why there's a guy in Lowes who thinks I'm completely insane, but took boltcutters to the little rings holding the strap on when I asked. A little twiddling with carabiners later, and the length is perfect.

Go you! That's a me-level solution; a Russ-level solution would have been to buy a narrow belt blank at a leather shop and replace the strap, using his ancient leather-stitching sewing machine.

I thought about that, but replacing the ring with a couple carabiners on each side was easier and didn't require finding a belt and digging out the sewing machine.
