Monster. Half of him had alligator scales (they were pushing the "strange fish" part) and half had drawings of muscles, as if he'd been skinned. They played the part fairly straight to text - Miranda hated him because he'd threatened to rape her - and Prospero was using EVERYONE as pawns, with particular scorn towards Caliban for his attempt at Miranda.
TBH, Ger and Bruce were doing their best to upstage the whole problematic storyline, and were usually succeeding. It was played for as much humor as possible.
(However, there was a discussion afterwards, and it turns out that one of the lords is particularly interested in that issue and said he originally had to pace the backstage swearing sotto voce during the Caliban scenes. However, then he fell in love with the freedom song they sing and instead sings along with that. (He was asked at one point about a version of the play in which Ariel spits in Prospero's face when set free - he thrust a fist in the air and said "I APPROVE!")
