New Comm! (not mine. Yet)

You know how I've been wishing for a Sherlockian version of [livejournal.com profile] calufrax? Say hello to [livejournal.com profile] 221b_recs, a brand spanking new all-era Holmesian fic rec community. (Not for actual spanking, although god knows in this fandom.)

They're just getting pulled together, so go give 'em some love and support. The mods (and everyone else who watches the percentages on [livejournal.com profile] holmesian_news expect it to be overwhelmingly Sherlock but they don't want to cut anyone else out. (Besides, there'll be a Ritchie-version spike when the new movie comes out, guaranteed.)

Also, Baker Street Supper Club has a writeup of the Moffat-Gatiss interview about making Sherlock. I haven't read it yet, so I don't know if there are spoilers ETA: Have read it, only spoiler for the next season is the three "hint" words. (S2 starts filming in May! Squee!) What I have seen in a quick glance at the beginning of the writeup is a certain amount of "we slipped that thing in from canon, did you notice?" like the coffee Mark & John drink being from Criterion, that being the restaurant Stamford and Watson have lunch in during Study in Scarlet. And I hadn't noticed, so that is cool.

PS - I have determined that if one reads 3 chapters/short stories a week, you can get through the whole canon in a year. Hmmmm....

I'm not going to repeat the three code words in case anyone is a spoilerphobe, but canon's been around for a century or so, so are three words from it really "spoilers"? We don't know how they'll be interpreted.

Hah, I know, right? It's funny to feel the same kind of energy in the Sherlock Holmes fandom that there was in Who fandom in 2005... Sounds like a very useful comm. BRB following.

I had a brief dekko at the Baker St article, since I follow the feed, and I didn't see any spoilers myself, but I wasn't looking closely.

Very much so! Like any young fandom, it's got all the thrill of discovery and discussion but no reason for major fallouts.

It's a great time in a fandom's lifecycle.

I'm going to read the full BSSC article... soon. I kind of have to do a lot this weekend, including pull the background material for the discussion comm together.

FYI, this is what a dear friend called Sherlocktide; the Baker Street Irregulars and other like-minded Sherlockians are dining this evening at several expensive venues in NYC (and in the snow, as is common) in honor of SH's presumed Jan 6 birthday. It's the Worldcon of Sherlockdom, or at least the North American version.

Here are the details of the weekend's activities:

Someday... I'd better read up on my canon first, though, it's been a while!

Are you planning something and can I get in on it?

I wasn't planning on making a comm for that or anything... but now that you mention it, I don't see why I couldn't start instituting a Saturday Sherlock post for anyone who wants to discuss it...
