Cagle has a set of cartoons culled from around the world regarding our election. Interesting read. (For some reason, I particularly liked all the Austrian ones.)

Once again, missing the point
CapAlert has their review up for Finding Neverland (note to self: netflix). As always, they are dinging filmmakers for the crime of showing actual reality in their movies - among the crimes of Neverland is the "wanton violence/crime" of discussing divorce, the "impudence/hate" of a child lashing out over his father's death, and the "offense to God" of dreaming of flying.

Y'know, plenty of people have told me over time that I'm going straight to hell for one reason or another, but for *dreams*? 'Cause I had dreams about flying all the time, particularly as an adolescent.

Y'know, I'm beginning to wonder if maybe CapAlert is actually a spoof site, 'cause I'd like to believe that nobody's that completely, unintentionally without the scent of a clue...

I'd love to think they're a spoof site, but I'm pretty sure they're real - they fit right in with the Jack Chick/radical reactionary/evangelistic mode that figures if they control what children see, they control how children think for the rest of their lives.

Besides, even if I don't go to hell for my dreams, according to people like that I'm going to hell for my shoes. I have wide feet, y'see, and wear men's shoes. And there's a Bible verse somewhere about what an abomination it is to wear the other gender's clothing...

I remember reading their review of the first X-Men movie, where one of the things they complained about was "defiance of parents" -- the scene where Rogue, having just seriously injured her boyfriend when her power manifested for the first time, is screaming at her mother, "Don't TOUCH me!" Clearly, they don't comprehend the difference between "disobedience" and "OMG, if you touch me you'll DIE!" -- which is a protective impulse.

But it's no more than I'd expect from people like that.

Just about anything that hasn't been preprogrammed in by the parents is bad, as far as I can tell. Any child who has a bit of spirit, individuality, curiosity, intelligence is bad, 'cause they're not being their parents' little meatpuppet.
