I would expect any amount of ridiculousness from them, but I have high hopes of having ditched them by next month. I'm planning on swinging by the credit union this week to make another pitch for them giving me a card so I can replace Discover.
I'm playing this waiting game right now. Will the check from my mortgage refinance come before or after my payment to the card I'm paying off is due? If it doesn't, I get to pay them the minimum and then they'll have to send it back once they get the check from the mortgage company. :/ I won't be completely debt free when this is done, but I'll be within a month or two - just an AmEx card that needs to go back to NOT carrying a balance. :)
To be fair, AmEx has been very straightforward (and I've been lucky, so have AT&T Universal Card/Citibank). I just want to get it out of the way and I'll be so close after I get the checks from the mortgage company.
It's a very good feeling, being this close. And knowing that the mortgage will be paid off quicker helps too. :)
Next step will be to wake up the Citbank Visa with no balance for emergencies. I let it go dormant while I was paying off the AT&T card, but I had to close the latter since it's being paid off by the mortgage.
I managed to pay off all my credit cards in one fell swoop a few years ago (profit on a house sale) and have made it a point not to get into heavy debt to them again. I keep one card for internet purchases, and pay it off every month.
I was thrilled to pieces to see how many Internet companies are now taking PayPal, allowing me to leave the credit cards entirely out of the equation. The paypal account is tied to the same account as the Little Visa, with gets a set amount every paycheck. The cumulative effect is to give me a line item on the budget for grins and giggles - either I can buy direct or I can buy on the Visa and pay back.

Just watch they don't send you a bill next month for the overdue charge on $0.00. It's been known to happen.
