I hear that originally the idea was that the explosion goes on as scheduled, and they start up next year with a whole bunch of new heroes. Until they realized that if they lost Hiro they'd lose 50% of the fans, and if they lost either Patrelli, they'd lose the other 50%. So now apparently it's a scramble to rewrite.
Thing is, Claude's story feels unfinished as it is. We don't know if he got away when they busted his rooftop sanctuary, and there will hopefully be flashbacks to his partnership with Bennett.

I would like it if they let the explosion occur because that would copy The Watchmen take guts, and it seems slightly subversive given the average viewers' expectations. Plus they hinted as early as episode 4 that both Hiro and Peter would survive in a future where the explosion happens. Preventing it seems to contradict how the writers have handled time travel in the Heroverse (Hiroverse?). Everything that Isaac has painted has come to pass, though not necessarily as originally interpreted by the characters (and viewers). Same with Peter's prophetic dreams. If the explosion is prevented, I think that would be the first time Isaac's been "wrong". (And preventing the explosion eliminates the Future Hiro we've seen so far. :( ). [unspoiled prediction] Of course, the way to solve this is to have the explosion start to happen, then have Hiro rewind it all, with enough time left to kill Sylar. [/up]

Which means everything is up in the air.
And... where is Claude? I need me some Claude!

And I was so hoping Claude would turn up last night at a pivotal moment.

However, an important distinction between our!Peter and future!Peter is that apparently future!Peter can't regenerate -- witness the scar.
On the other other hand, future!Claire is still alive, so somebody saved her.

The Doctor after seeing Claude: "Blimey! I used to look like that!"
