Really random non sequiturs

The Dickens Tea, the Team Wench charitable event that I thought of and then could muster neither energy nor money to launch, has been officially handed off. They will keep the three aspects that were the most important to me - a Victorian Christmas theme, a late afternoon schedule, and the American Heart Association (Go Red for Women) as the recipient of the charity. The new runners include the member of a tea club, someone who runs a similar event for her Girl Scout troop, and someone who is raring to have a TW event under her belt and has great, creative ideas. It's in good hands. Better hands than mine right now.

Yes, I do feel that there's a big weight off my shoulders.

I am becoming annoyingly evangelical about the morning yoga. (The one thing that absolutely nobody else on my f-list could give a rat's ass - sorry Nos - about, judging from the resounding silence.) "Remember my body doesn't work in the morning," M said warningly when I enthused. That's kind of the *point* to me - when the alarm goes off at 5 in the frickin' morning, the last thing I want to do is actually *get up.* But I can roll onto my back and flex my feet. That's not too bad. And then pulling up my knees isn't so bad, I'm still on my back... and a few more "and thens" I'm up on my feet and can face the day, even though it's still pretty much still the crack of "Why am I awake?"

Next up, trying to come up with a 3-5 minute routine to get the blood moving to combat the middle-of-the-afternoon post-lunch snoozes at work.

John Barrowman, you're an oversexed toddler. Don't ever change.

iTunes does not have the original Slade version of "Run Runaway." Dang.

I haven't said anything about the yoga, because I've tried it, and while I'm bendable enough, the balance just isn't there. I should start using my exercise DVD again, though.

And though I haven't commented about it, I've been enjoying your posts about bento boxes, as that's the way I construct my lunch when I take my lunch. I may have to see about getting a few. My current system involves small tupperware type containers and a metal lunchbox I bought several years ago, that's rather banged up now.

As cute as the little "sheep lube" and "sopra" boxes are, if you're used to tupperware, I'm going to recommend either the Tigers (smaller capacity, most useful) or the Mr. Bentos. More airtight containers.

Although the little boxes are just cute as the Dickens!

I'm flexible. I've got containers of various sizes and shapes (and some of them turned out to not seal properly), none of which is actually tupperware.

And I'm a firm believer in cute lunchboxes. The current one is Sailor Moon.

What I need to do is investigate some of the stores around here. We have a large Japanese population, so I should be able to get something locally.

[identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 12:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I will be so amazingly jealous if you find a bento store! I'd love to be able to just walk into one and shop!

I don't think I'll find a store that just sells bentos, but there's an Oriental grocery that I've been in before, that I was planning to check on Saturday.

[identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
They have such marvels in Japan, and one in Australia somewhere, of all things. I've seen pictures in one of the bento comms.

An Oriental market is an excellent place. That's where I bought my vivas and my Tiger knock-offs, plus all that really nifty square tupperware-style stuff (brand name "proo." That stuff is *fabulous!*)

[personal profile] evil_plotbunny 2007-09-06 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
The pictures I've seen of the square tupperwarelike stuff are what caught me. I might not even bother with a new lunchbox, as the square design would make them fit better than the round ones I've been using.

But I shall see.

Worst case scenario, you can order the rectangular ones from The Container Store online. Same concept, same sizes, slightly different shape.

Ah. I don't get over to the Container Store often, but that's good to know.

[identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I have to make a special trip to get to the physical store, but online... that's much closer.

It's near enough and on the way home from the nearest B&N and best movie theater, so I can make a stop if I know they have something.

I hope that you keep posting about it.

Trust me, I never shut up about things that I'm excited about. I see it as a way of building the stretching in... and as someone mentions downthread, delaying getting out of bed!

The cats are very confused by the whole thing. If I'm up, I should either be feeding or petting them. After all, it's been hours since they had attention!

[identity profile] maypanic.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
I think the morning yoga is pretty darn brilliant. In a way, since I'm already setting the alarm early enough to exercise first thing, this would actually be a way to delay fully rolling out of bed.

Me and my electrophysiologist (fancy schmancy cardiologist) thank you for supporting the American Heart Association.

*ding*ding*ding*ding* WE HAVE A WINNER! You bet it's a way to delay getting out of bed, without actually falling back asleep! :>

Actually, I printed that morning wake-up-work-out and brought it home so I could start using it myself, especially as I sound like a bowl of cereal in the morning and DON'T like trying to crawl out of bed...

Yow! You didn't mention that the Barrowman interview had three photos. And you didn't mention the cover photo. Or the other photo. What, you don't share? :-)

Re: photos

I figured you'd find the three photos as a lovely surprise. Didn't know about the others. Guh! *fans self*

[identity profile] avidbeader.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 10:48 am (UTC)(link)
I copied the yoga workout to a file and plan to print it out and try it this weekend, once we've got the morning kindergarten routine down.

[identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
It's taken me about a week to memorize it (now I have to go back and make sure my post is the same as what I'm actually doing) but boy howdy - what a difference it makes in being able to get out of bed!

[identity profile] chelseagirl.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 10:55 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just in yoga-denial at the moment -- I need to get back to taking classes, but 'til I've finished The Big Project, I can't make the time commitment. So, go you! ;-)

[identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 11:27 am (UTC)(link)
In just six minutes a day... (I'm not doing them lots, just once, maybe twice, on the basis that once is better than "nonce"!)

[identity profile] chelseagirl.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've always been more class-orientated when I do yoga; perhaps I should start doing some sun-salutations in the morning, though. Right now I'm getting used to the restoration of my twice-daily half-hour walks to school and back, which are making me very happy.

[identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 03:16 pm (UTC)(link)
It would be fantastic if I could figure out a way to build half-hour walks into my life. Not even the parking lot is big enough here; I couldn't even do 15 minutes.

[identity profile] chelseagirl.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
My aunt read somewhere that people in major cities actually live longer, healthier lives because we have so much walking built into our daily routines. I'm lucky I can just work it into my commute, and when we move to Brooklyn in a year or two and I can't walk to work anymore, I'm going to have to make a concerted effort not to slack off.

[identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 06:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I've always said that if I lived in Manhattan, I'd be skinny as a rail.

[identity profile] bentleywg.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
No bed yoga for me: if I delayed getting up in the morning any more than I already do, the dog would kill me.

[identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
The cats are *very* confused. Why am I not feeding them. Why am I not even PETTING them?

[identity profile] shawan-7.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
Get up and walk around after lunch. Even 2 minutes. And don't eat too much. That works.

[identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com 2007-09-06 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
The bentos are helping tremendously with portion control.

Your morning yoga sounds great, and I hope that you keep posting about it - that might get me to start too. It would be good for me. I know that. I tend to stretch, then get out of bed and start the morning chores (pouring juice, grinding coffee beans, getting the coffeemaker going, feeding the cats, letting the cats out on the back porch, letting the cats back in from the back porch, washing the pots and pans from dinner, singing to the parrot - the usual *g*).

I love John Barrowman. Thank you for the link. :-)

I used to do yoga. Took a course in it my senior year of college, and then for a while the stretches preceding my jogging sessions were borrowed from yoga poses. (Hence my choice of image for this icon, it being one of the poses I still like attempting on my now-rare trips to the gym.) Pity I can't do it anymore -- the amount of floor space left in my room is probably about five square feet, and there's nowhere else in the house with enough floor space to stretch out on that's not also a major walkway or on the kitchen linoleum.

[identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com 2007-09-13 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Hee - that's the pose I keep trying to do last thing in the morning. Not that I'm at all good at it!

the amount of floor space left in my room is probably about five square feet

What I'm doing is mostly on my bed - there's your space!
