From [livejournal.com profile] filkertom, a clip of David Attenborough talking about a Lyre bird. I knew about mockingbirds and have seen footage of one imitating cell phone rings, but the Lyre has them beat, imitating the cameras of the crew that's following it, a car alarm, and a chainsaw.

Sunday 7:
Odd Job: A lot of these, as work is slowly going to the other editors as my end date approaches. I've been reorganizing my recipes, going through papers, and pitching back catalogs

Declutter: Doing the odd jobs listed above has reduced several stacks of paper of "things to be dealt with"

Indulgence: None in specific, but I'm taking it easy this weekend.

Knitalong: Put the "knitalong" afghan down; started Roma. Spent a couple hours redesigning Roma. Knitted 1 square of 275. Today I'm going to buy the other set of needles I need.

3 Items Dealt With: while clearing through the office, I discovered an old computer case with:
1) A 28.8 modem
2) An AOL v2.0 floppy
and
3) the telephone which one of my ferrets bit a number off the keypad.

All tossed

And my feast gear tray is finding a second life as a tea tray for carrying food to my little nook in the bedroom.

Impressive video. I was especially impressed by the chainsaw impersonation.

Wow, that is impressive. The grackles around here are very good at imitating car alarms, and once I saw one using the pipe at the base of a billboard as an impromptu megaphone, but I haven't heard one do a chainsaw yet!

A pretty tray that I originally bought as a display for loose beads has just been re-purposed to keep all my office-supply stuff corralled on top of the credenza. This, plus removing a CD-storage unit that's much larger than it turns out to have needed to be, will give me a better space in which to organize what I call (semi-ironically) my "altar" -- my collection of Bast figurines, a couple of ceremonial daggers, a framed print of the Moon Goddess, and some beeswax candles. I don't have a good chalice yet, but now I might be inspired to get one.

I was helping a friend with her computer and her dachshunds started barking. And then I heard this other sound and it took me a minute to figure out what it was. It was her parrot. Barking.

I think if my parrot started barking I'd have shot it.
