Filters - still a few bugs

Posting in case anyone has any idea what to do.

Okay, I set up "default view" and "weekly" filters. When I pop open my flist, it defaults to "Default view."

HOWEVER!

When I hit "previous," the default switches back to "All Friends" when it goes to the skip=20 page. The way around this appears to be confirming the default by hitting the "view" button next to the filter as soon as my flist comes up. Okay, I can live with that.

What's proving weirder is this: Say I want to read everything all at once. So I go to the filter on the first page and click "all friends" "view." It doesn't go to all friends. It goes to the default view. BUT, if I then click "previous," I automatically go to "all friends" on the skip=20 page.

I'm so confused.

There are ways around it, of course; it seems that if I rename "default view" to "daily" and just remember to physically pick it every time I log in, I avoid the whole thing. However, that in itself is also a pain in the patoot.

Filter readers, how do you handle this? If it's possible to type in the filter name in the URL bar, is it possible to bookmark *that* version of the page?

Try making sure the capitalization is "Default View"? I don't know whether that affects things or not.

Viewing all friends despite a DV filter: http://neadods.livejournal.com/friends/?filter=0 (only works for you, not for other people)

Viewing a filter by name: http://neadods.livejournal.com/friends/foobar (eg http://neadods.livejournal.com/friends/daily or whatever)

There is also a numerical value for each filter, which allows you to eg filter your friends page to people who are in either group A or group B, but that's more hassle than it's worth to remember, unless you actually want to know :)

I must say, I like the idea of naming a filter "foobar"!

Yep. You can bookmark it. It's a different page entirely, according to URL. For example, my normal page is faireraven.livejournal.com/friends, but the page I view on a regular basis is faireraven.livejournal.com/friends/friends.

So just bookmark the page you want. Me, I put it in the links. :)

Hmmm... I'm going to have to decide now if I want to put the daily filter on a link or the unfiltered. Probably wiser to put the unfiltered.

it doesn't matter which you link to because the only way people can see your filtered f-list is if you make them public. (There's an option on the edit friends filter page)

I figure I'll get busted soon enough for the lag time between post and reply comment; there's no need to go public with the filters!

I just bookmarked mine. Easier to get to and avoids the temptation to look at everything "just this once" when I need to be in and out fast.

I suppose I could just make it easiest of all and have the filtered version popping up as my second tab. Then it's all ready to go and I don't have to remember to click anything.

I'm on AOL and I've put bookmarks of LJfriend,(filter for all my personal friends) LJfanfic (filter for fan fic communities) and LJEps (filtered for episode communities) all on my toolbar so I can check whichever communities and journals I want without going through all of them.

That's an excellent idea. Now that I've created these two filters, I need to adjust two other ones!
