I still maintain that it would be possible for the Doctor to rescue Adric. Not Five because it seems that the same regen crossing time lines is worst than another regeneration. Because no one actually saw him die afterall. They saw the ship crash and burn NOT Adric die.
But then I've been watching too much Old Who apparently, as evidenced by my reaction to the idea that all the companions alive were being contacted. Afterall, is Harry, Tegan, Adam etc etc all dead? (watched Invasion of the Bane for the first time yesterday, you wouldn't believe how much I squee over the photos of the Brig and Harry on SJS's wall and then suggesting their names first when naming Luke). Maybe they also couldn't get to devices to contact back, or maybe Harriet Jones was only expect the ones she had up on the screen and the rest where because she didn't know they were there? Or maybe I just adore Harry too much, because in his day he was the Doctor's action man. And you have to admit a man who runs around a set without shoes for most of four episodes is cool.
