Shit

Big Finish is discontinuing their Short Trips series. They've lost the license. There will be a fire sale of old issues after their "best of" edition comes out in May, so if anyone still doesn't have their copy of Quality of Leadership...

(Note to attendees of ChicagoTARDIS: I discovered at the last con that "Big Finish no longer sells" != "no longer available from licensed American vendors." They get to keep selling their stock on hand while it lasts.)

Damn.

In other book-related news, I've just skimmed the premiere books in the two "realtor sells haunted houses" series, (can anyone believe there are two?) and I dimly recall someone being interested in hearing about them. Shall I post a compare/contrast on 'em?

YIPE! I'll have to grab "Qualities" and a couple of others QUICK then- won't I?

Yeah. I was budgeting to get some in November at TARDIS, but now I'm wondering if I'll have to leap when the leaping's good.

OT but ponder...

Am I the only one who's gotten so old that he thinks Doctor 11 wouldn't last 5 minutes in a room with Evelyn Smythe if they ever met? I just have this vision of her dragging him into the Tardis by his ear...

I need to see him in action before I say that, but now I'm tempted to write the fic just for the fun of it!

I was about to order a few Short Trips, but now I'll wait until they go on sale, which should time well with my renewing my download subscription.

The question is whether I'll be able to afford all of the ones I'm missing (17 volumes not counting the "best of", which I won't need if I have the others) before they disappear completely. I do have Quality, at least. ;)

What I'm very curious about is why now? Are the BBC planning something with classic Doctors/Companions such as reviving the Past/Missing type adventures, or did the licensing fee go through the roof for some reason? The Big Finish blog was not very informative.

I'm wondering that myself.

Realtor sells haunted Houses? I don't think I am the person you are talking about, but i am definitly piqued.

I'll get to them tomorrow, I think. They're both kinda meh.

Bwuh?! Now I'm curious as hell as to why/how they lost that license...

[identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com 2009-04-18 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
My two guesses are either that the BBC didn't renew it because they want to re-start their classic Doctor print lines or Big Finish didn't have the money. They've been saying a lot about how much the downloading hurts them because they run on a shoestring already.

If they only had the money for one, I think they get more reaction and revenue from the audios.

Well the audios are what they're best known for...

Oh fuck. That sucks. That really, really sucks. There go my hopes of ever writing for them.

And mine of writing more.

I'm glad I had the opportunity to write 6 stories for the line. It was a real honour.

[identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com 2009-04-18 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Here's a stupid question - Who are you? I've had a heck of a time matching screenname to real name.

[identity profile] mondyboy.livejournal.com 2009-04-19 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Ian Mond - of Melbourne Australia :). Nice to meet you.

I've written 6 Short Trips and 4 Benny stories. And last year I edited an Aussie Horror Mag called Midnight Echo.
