The Pantry Strikes Back

On the possibly mistaken assumption that anyone cares about this... (And thank you, y'all, for your flooring suggestions! Much needed.)

The molding around the door, the molding along the floor under the pantry built-in, the linoleum under the pantry built-in, and the shelving, supports, and dividing wall along the lower half of the pantry are all ripped out.

I also have a smashed finger and what's going to turn into a really impressive technicolor bruise along my right arm, and because the molding had been nailed into thin plywood, there are lots of gaps where I tried to lever it out and just poked holes in the backing instead. So "install new molding" is now one of the tasks, but I'm expecting it to help hide a multitude of sins.

Even more annoyingly, the dated decorative wooden thingy over the kitchen window -- which I had particularly looked forward to ripping out -- can't come out. Not without ripping out all the molding over ALL the cabinets and that's just too much to load onto this job with all the other mission creep I'm dealing with, especially as it would mean either adding new molding or taking out *all* the wallpaper and... no. Just NO!

On the other hand, I've found a very interesting set of Art Nouveau stencils and artwork that I'm going to use to jazz up the cabinet doors and Do Something about that fugly "decorative" piece:

I'm finally figuring out what I'm doing in the bathroom and the kitchen... and it involves lots of stencils.

the single iris one is exactly what I wanted for the bedroom -- but it's bloody expensive with the conversion from pounds... *sigh*

But if it's *the* right thing, it's worth it, I think. A couple of the stencils would still be MUCH cheaper than the equivalent tiles by the time I use the stencils a few times.

Oh, and I'm not forgetting the teacup. The teacup is going to have a heavy influence too:

At first I thought that was the site where you can "make
your own tiles (the kids & I have done that a LOT!), but
I'll have to look for the link...

I'm looking for stencils and stencil inspiration.

Oh, I LOVE the flower tiles! Now I wish I had a use for them!

I want to turn 107A and 104 into stencils.

About the fugly decorative thingie -- would it be at all possible to excise it using a thin-bladed saw at each side, and then just replace the molding that comes out with it? Sanding and retouching a small area, and then replacing a limited amount of molding, would be a much smaller task.

[identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com 2010-05-24 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
I thought about that, and then I thought about holding a jigsaw over my head to do it, and decided that paint was the better part of valor.

I'm also not ruling out covering the bugger with a decorative valence.

a decorative valance where you stencil the fabric....

Whimper!! I love the Art Nouveau style, so those links are just,... (Whimper!) I hate being broke.

Squeeing over the Dard Hunter design -- the Roycrofters were/are located a town over from my parents and I have many things in that rose design and its variants.

I love roses, I love Art Nouveau. You can see where this is going!
