I resigned from gov't work, after 16 years in the system. I was grossly underpaid for what I did, even though I loved the work ... but I worked for DoD and all of the bases were being closed off. I just got sick of the nonsense, frankly. And, any new Fed employees are *required* to use the TSP. It only works if you can afford to plug additional funds of your own into it. Here's why the majority of Fed employees can't do that: After 16 years, and being in a "management" job, I was making $37,500/year and living in a high-cost area. That $37K was *after* the 11% cost of living increase we'd received to keep people from leaving Fed work in high-cost areas.

Trust me ... you don't want to do this.
