I've been having fun with my links list, to the point where I seem to have hit an upper limit. That's going to be inconvenient someday, but for now, I've hit the highlights.

And speaking of highlights, I am muchly hopeful that I have hit the reviewer's holy grail - the wonderful book by someone I never heard of that I would have have never picked up if someone hadn't handed me a copy. After all the books that made me want to writhe on the floor screaming "MY EYES! MY EYES!!" it's fantastic to get one that I'm really excited to read. (And since y'all have heard me screaming about the former, I thought you might like to know that the latter exists.)

It's very early yet to completely rave, but unless the author egregiously screws up, I've found a pearl beyond price. The first sentence made me laugh out loud and everyone I've shown it to has been equally amused. That wasn't a fluke either - I either snickered or smiled 5 times in the first two pages. It's as unabashedly niche as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as perkily epigrammatic as The Librarian, as grittly noir as Cast a Deadly Spell, and as cynically, believably, oddball as Discworld. (The line I want to use in the review shaping up in my mind is "Imagine that Neil Gaiman invited Terry Pratchett and Jim Butcher over to rewrite Lord of the Rings in Philip Marlowe's voice." A previous reviewer beat me to the Roger Rabbit parallel.)

No, I can't tell you which book it is; as always, all details must go up on RtE first. And before that, I have to actually finish reading the thing.

But for once, for one glorious once, I really feel that I've found a hidden gem.
