Dec. 24th, 2003

Twas the day before Christmas, and I made my mother happy by cutting all my hair off. Every now and then I need a harmony haircut, as in there ain't gonna be no harmony until my hair no longer touches my back.

Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] suricattus (I hope I spelled that right) I went ahead and told him to lop off enough so I could donate it to Locks of Love. There was 12 inches that could go (my mother was SO thrilled that she already has an addressed envelope to send it in) and what's left is cut in an "Italian Bob" (chin length, slightly shorter in back). Plus side - it's insanely easy care. (Also, my mother is beside herself with joy.)

Minus side - while Mother thinks I look "younger," I think I look like Baby June. Ah, well, he told me it would grow out nicely!

Perhaps this will turn into a trend - I'll grow it out like I want for about 3 years, and when it hits about 14" long in the back it can be cut off and donated and my mother will be happy that my hair's short again.

In other news, my rarely-seen Aunt Mary and Uncle Harold and cousin Dana are here for a few days. They have brought many presents. Not all for us, of course, but for each other & us, and we've got presents for them, and I'm thrilled, because there is something terribly soul-satisfying about seeing stacks and stacks of presents everywhere, whether they're for you or not. And the one thing I'm apparently not getting (and forgot to pack) are PJs, so I went out to Target this morning and bought PJs that say "Sugar and Spice/Naughty and Nice."

Y'know, you know you're getting older when you buy something suggestive for yourself and your parents are amused instead of wigging out.

Still on today's schedule, after finishing this LJ and reading back issues of Renaissance and BBC History, is a full turkey dinner, late church service, and "overflow" gift opening. My mother has decided that my brother and I have too many presents* and so some have to be opened tonight before the big giftie bit tomorrow so that the visiting family doesn't feel underloved or something.

*This, like her pronouncement that I have "too many books" may be phrased in English, but the words simply make no sense.

A Merry Holiday to all and to all a good night!
