Apparently I'm not going to read Salon anymore.

They must be having trouble getting people to pay for subscriptions (not a huge surprise, I only find myself reading one article in 2 dozen) because the ads have been more and more obtrusive, finally getting to the point where you couldn't even see the front page without going through an ad. But if you just went to your toolbar, you could cut out the extraneous crap back down to www.salon.com and get to the front page to read the headlines. Y'know, make an informed decision if there was anything you actually wanted to read.

Well, I just tried to take a look, and now they've got it set so that you can't dodge around the pop-up anymore. Either you subscribe or you sit through the daily ad before you can even see what they're writing about that day!

Excuse me? Even the most heavily advertising laden magazine gives you their most tantalizing headlines right there on the front cover to tempt you to read. The whole "sit through my ad and then I'll tell you if there's anything here worth your time" model is not going to be a big draw.
