There and back again
Sep. 27th, 2004 09:59 amI had so much fun in NYC this weekend I'm wondering if I should try to work in a regular trip up there every quarter or so. This might be a little too much closeness with
sheyheyred, but I'll chance it. :>
I'm also considering a Sunday subscription to the NY Times. Nominally, it's because I like getting new takes on the news and knowing what's up in the theater, but the truth is, I'm utterly in love with the person who wrote the letter to the editor this weekend saying "Bill O'Reilly and James Carville are the Rosencrantz and Guilderstern of modern political drama."
Trip report in short - Wicked still rocks. They've made some minor changes from when I saw it in February - Dorothy is now heard and seen behind a screen, lines have shifted from one scene to another. Very minor stuff. Iduna still rocks. They were sensible enough to allow the new Wizard, Glinda, and Fiero to make their own takes on the characters. (I saw the touring Producers and the new Bialystock and Bloom were very obviously cast for their Lane and Broderic impressions. Since I've seen the original show, it was like looking at a bad copy or drinking tea with an overused teabag.)
Dracula the Musical. The technical work was awesome - I've never seen such brilliant wire work, so many lightening changes, etc. Candy and Smap really loved the music.
Brunch. It's always delightful to see
sheyheyred, and the Meerkat Memorial Mimosa toast was made to
suricattus. Not a restaurant I'll go to again, as their service was pretty scattershot.
Madame Tussaud's. Ye ghods, $30 to walk in the door! But I will admit, it is far more interactive than the one in London.
But now I'm already plotting my return engagement. After all, there's The Rivals opening at the Lincoln Center, Wayne Brady in Chicago, everyone under the sun in Spamalot... and the last few times I was up there, I didn't get to shop the garmet district at all!
