Dad - HALLELUJA!
Dec. 8th, 2004 04:18 pmBottom line - Dad should be okay. HUZZAH!
The operation took four hours; about 1/3 through, Mother went completely tharn - unable to read, pray, or pretty much do anything. I distracted her for a while with planning out the menus for Christmas, but then it was just waiting and waiting and worrying about them not calling from the OR when they said they would. (At one point an attendee of the waiting room came over and offered to call in. Mother said no, and I said "She's lying. Please call." Fortunately, they called out shortly after that.)
The surgeon came out to talk to us. He said he'd drained the liver cyst, taken out the gall bladder, removed the tumor, checked Dad's alignment, etc. There was a picture of the tumor, a little red & white fleshy, bloody lump. I looked at it and asked "Is it a boy or a girl?"
The surgeon was hedging his bets - there *might* be a tumor they missed, the liver cysts *might* come back, etc. - but on the whole, he said that everything should be okay, and they'd check Dad and as soon as his blood sugar and internal plumbing equalized, he should be good to go, with no lasting effects.
HUGE sigh of relief. Now that I don't have to be strong anymore, I feel about 1/4 inch thick. In a good way.
And there was a minor "yay!" too - today's papers announced that The Librarian, Quest for the Cheese had 7 million viewers, making it the highest-rated cable movie of the year.
Happy, happy, joy, joy, relief!
