Tuesday Update
Dec. 14th, 2004 08:03 amDad is now walking and eating solid food "although neither very well," Mother says. His blood sugar was too high when it was tested last night, leading to worries that the operation may have turned him diabetic. I'm waiting another couple of days before I worry about that, as I'm willing to bet his entire system is pretty much gibbering and going "What the HELL was all that?!" and hasn't settled back down yet.
They are discussing a Wednesday release. My brother will be in town by then. My cold, which is now showing up in my voice (see Ma? I wasn't making it up!) means that I remain banished and Mother's ordering me to get well as fast as possible or she won't hesitate to keep me out of the house at Christmas while Dad recuperates.
Note to self - much vitamin C and sleep.
In other news, Reviewing the Evidence has my review of Case Histories. I'm seeing that one pop up a lot in "best books of the year" lists, so go over and get a second viewpoint on it.
I've read three review books this month, and had told RtE several times that I wanted to take the rest of the month off for seasonal stuff. Thing is, I'm still too nervous for the usual Christmas fluff. So I stood there looking at my TBR bookshelves and realized that I think I've forgotten how to read for pleasure! It's suddenly very foreign and forbidden to realize that if I don't like something I don't have to slog through it anyway and write a book report at the end.
(For those who care, I finally went semi-seasonal and historical; I'm reading American Jesus, which is a history of the US's shifting views on religion and Jesus in particular. The subtitle is "How the Son of God Became a National Icon." Not sure I'm buying into the premise, but I'll give it a whirl.)
