You'd think it would be easy...
Jan. 31st, 2005 10:24 amI have no idea why everyone is letting me plan the Spamalot trip to NYC when I'm proving surprisingly incapable of getting my own fanny to a quilt show that I've attended for years...
It's like this: Once a year, there's a combined quilt/knitting/fabric art/antiques fest down around Williamsburg. It's become quite a pilgrimmage for me, both so I can see the sights at the festival and have a little Williamsburg fun when the exhibits aren't open. (6pm to 10am can be a long time and I don't sleep *that* much!)
Two things are putting a cramp in that this year:
1) They have moved the bugger; now instead of being just off of Colonial Williamsburg proper, it's another 45 minutes down the road.
2) While it is possible for me to drive down, see the show, have a dinner, and drive back in a single day, in the immortal words of Danny Glover, "I'm getting too old for this shit."
Resolved: I want to have something to do with myself after hours (oh, behave!) I don't necessarily want to drive 3 1/2 hours straight any given day. I want to spend some time in Col. Williamsburg shopping and eating. I do not want to spend much time on Saturday in Virginia at all because that's also the Team Wench pirate feast, which I do not want to attend strung out from the road.
Possible features: I can take off work Thursday as well as Friday. I'm not adverse to adding something in Richmond or elsewhere along my path to the itinerary.
You'd think it would be very straightforward. Drive to X, stop, rest, do Y. Drive to X, stop, rest, do Y. Drive to X, stop, rest, do Y, wherein X=Williamsburg and also X=Quiltfest. So why can't I seem to get a grip on best times, itinerary, etc?
