Nevermind all the fangirls who spontaneously ovulated at the sight of Hobbit with Child. I'm all Sayid! Lots of Sayid!! Squee, squee, squee!!!

But my favorite bit, bar none, was Sawyer running from Charlie. I wish that had been a running gag, that in the background of odd scenes you'd see Sawyer sprinting with Charlie on his heels.

Last year [livejournal.com profile] maureen_the_mad ripped up all the pokeweed and spearmint that had been choking the little garden outside the kitchen door. We never got around to putting weed guard and mulch down, so things are coming back up.

But they're different things! I knew there were lots of orange columbine out there, but it turns out that there are LOTS of orange columbine out there (I like columbine, but orange flowers don't excite me.) Also, there are some new plants going gangbusters; I googled them today and my suspicions were correct. I've got a lively bunch of English bluebells and of all things, a stand of Jack in the Pulpit! (Hey Kefira, still interested in that poison garden? Now I've got three things I can pot up for you.)

I'm still trying to figure out the logistics of putting down weed guard to keep the things I *don't* want spreading from spreading, but somehow giving enough room for the bleeding hearts, columbine, and bluebells to keep propagating.

I'm also still trying to learn how to lay out a cottage garden. The house might be a cape cod, but by the time I'm through with it, it's going to look Tudo-Victorian by hook or by crook! There's a house at the end of the street that looks like it's straight out of a fairy tale right now, all blooming azaleas and magnolia. I want that. I want that so much that I'm starting to wonder how possible it would be to uproot the bushes I never liked from in front of my house...

Must pass on this metaquoted fanfic rant about 'shipping Started by [livejournal.com profile] arcian, but the comments are also must-reads.

What really annoys me though, is the tendency of fans to place the onus of the supposed failure of the sure-to-be-doomed (aka. disliked) relationship on one character, while the other character is made out to be pretty much blameless.

Take the relationship between Beer and Barbeque*, for example. People who hate the Beer/Barbeque ship (which is cutely nicknamed "Summer Picnic") might say that Beer is "too bitter" for Barbeque, and that Barbeque would be better off with Pop because Beer is "dangerous to children" where Pop is "so sweet."

Which inevitably spawns a conversation along the lines of:

And maybe Barbeque would be available more if Beer wasn't such a slut--look at all that time he spends with Pizza, for example.

I hear Barbeque's seeing Coleslaw on the side, though. Beer's not the only one with fidelity issues.

Read it all. It's worth it!
