The State of the Nea
May. 16th, 2005 08:52 amThe state of the Nea is mainly exhausted; I lost track of time last night (for which I blame Phil Foglio's Girl Genius) and am thus currently running on about 2 hours less sleep than I needed. My chances of making it entirely through the workday are slim.
Spent the weekend mostly at S's place looking after the dogs and reading. Rather than quite taking
shayheyred's advice of throwing out books unlooked-at, I'm skimming the first few pages (and in the case of mysteries, the last 15 pages as well) and *then* tossing them. It makes me feel like I'm giving them a chance, however slender. Sometimes they do grab me, so it's not an impossible task.
As a result, TBRs are down to about 130 - and when they hit 70, I'm "done." The goal was never to have no TBRs left, it was to have them down to a reasonable number, and I'm darn close. Go, me!
On the other hand, go moles - go far, FAR away from my imported roses, damn you! Every day I come home to find another bush - usually a large established one on the verge of blooming - wilting and loose in the ground. One got its roots eaten so quickly that I found it lush and green and lying on its side. I popped that one into a vat of water spiked with root hormone, and it hasn't started wilting yet. I'm hoping I can keep it alive, but several others aren't so lucky.
I'm going to try the mole spray that a neighbor recommended, and then I'm going to price fancy large containers and see about transplanting the poor things.
And finally, I haven't yet gotten books to review or anything published, but two more websites have accepted me as a reviewer... one of which pays, huzzah!
