Question for the lit geeks
Jun. 13th, 2005 09:54 amIs there anything extra-special fancy worthwhile about the Riverside Edition of Chaucer? I ask because that's the version that they call for in the "Required Readings" of the Teaching Company "History of the English Language" course, but I can't see why I should pay all that when I can get cheaper copies of other publishers' Complete Chaucers... or probably pull the text for the referenced sections from offline. (I note with faint amusement that although this course is copyrighted for '98, most of the materials quoted come from the late 70s through the early 80s - well before Project Gutenberg existed, and from where I will probably be pulling most of the older readings.)
