Quiltfest

In the immortal words of Danny Glover, "I'm gettin' too old for this shit." It was a perfectly clear drive down and back... and by the time I rolled home I was so exhausted that I'm still brain-burned today. I've got to stop making this a one-day trip. Especially since apparently the King's Arms tavern is now only opening for dinner (no peanut soup! Wah!)

I'm not sorry I went, though. This year they were far more organized, and there was a ton of stuff to see, take photos of, and buy. (I'd try to describe the quilts, but sometimes even 1000 words isn't worth a picture.) [livejournal.com profile] tchwrter? There were beads. And buttons. And fibers and fabric... [livejournal.com profile] faireraven, there were a couple adorable bunny-themed ones. I thought of you.

Two Bookcrossing books were freed, both of which disappeared. I'm half surprised I didn't see "Victorian Christmas Quilts" yanked off the freebie table, as I came in with a group.

While I resisted spending tons of money, I did buy something that's just too utterly perfect for [livejournal.com profile] shawan_7 (you'll see it either birthday or Christmas, depending on how crazed the rest of my life is) and a set of size 11 knitting needles, my resolution to only do things in gage 9 not having lasted long. Those were the only two things I purchased. I did get a handout, and the rest of the time I picked up URLS for future shopping, presented for your use below. Some of these came from the freebie table and not vendors, so I can't guarantee everything on the web pages.

Mouth-watering hand-dyed rainbows, sold as kits, strips, quarters, or yardage
To aid machine quilting I've wanted one of these for a while...
Oak products for quilting and sewing, acrylic templates
A collection of fabric stencils, buttons, patterns, stamps, etc.
International Fabric Collection
Quilt Time These folks were handing freebies out, the sensible people! A newsprint-based, fat-quarter-sized template for making half square triangles of various sizes. Marked so that you can do continuous stitch and then cut apart. Ideas on turning the squares into quilts on the website. I'm told that new designs and new templates will go up in 2-3 weeks as well as the ones already available. (Of all the temptations, this was the most tempting.)
Fabulous Fibers
Quilting Stencils

I also picked up flyers for future, more local events:
March 11-12, Southern Comforters of Bowie quilt show, $5 entry
June 2-4 Quilter's Unlimited Quilt Show in Chantilly (price variable, starting at $8 for one day)
June 10-11, Quilts By the Bay, Annapolis, $5

And related news:
Quilts of Valor is seeking 54" x 74" quilts for wounded service people. The site's more ra-ra, War! than I particularly like, but the cause is just and noble.

Gip!
