If it's not one thing, it's your mother
Mar. 13th, 2006 08:35 amBusy, busy weekend. I didn't quite get to "enjoy" the warm weather by shovelling tons of leaves out of my garden, but they'll be fine staying there through the projected cold snap (after today's heat wave) and being removed when the weather stabilizes again.
So instead, on Saturday I went places and saw people. First it was the Bowie Quilt Show, a very small but pleasant thing held in a school auditorium. About 10 vendors, maybe 50 quilts to see. I was very good and only bought a little bit; one pattern and one fat quarter. Next to Quiltfest this is very small potatoes indeed, but I hadn't seen the pattern (either the quilt pattern or the fabric one) down there, so what the heck.
Saturday night I swung by the Empty Bowls project. This charity idea is run in conjunction with a pottery studio; the point is that you come by and pick a pottery bowl to keep and fill it up with soup, salad, and desserts provided. Bowls are donated by the studio, and proceeds go to a charity; this year it was something called "Helping Hands." I missed last year's because we went to Spamalot in NYC but was very glad I made this year's, because I love the concept. If I can figure out a low-cost supplier for nice teacups, I might try to do an amended version for the Dickens Tea.
Sunday, my parents came to visit. I love them dearly and they love me, but at times it was like having two extra cats in the house as they wandered through. Still, a very pleasant and productive day (since I had once told Mother that my only plan was to move a trunk to the basement, by George, she emptied that trunk and got Dad to help me move it to the basement!) They don't come to visit that often, so I really enjoyed it - and am very, very thankful that they were BOTH there to enjoy it. Dad is, post surgery, actually healthier than he's been in a very long time.
