nostalgia_lj's essay to new fans explaining why old fans get a rash at the idea of shipping. I don't know how many fans fall into my category; someone who left during the hiatus and are now back, but I do know that when new canon doesn't match old canon, there's only one thing a fan can do:
Fire up the word processor!
