Morning Roundup
Dec. 14th, 2007 07:12 amCall for betas - Who would be willing to take a look at my story for the OT3 ficathon? Rose/Jack/Nine, G to PG-13. It would be coming in sections, the first of which is ready and the second (possibly through to the end) ready by the end of the weekend. It's looking to be in the 10,000-15,000 word range.
raqs recced this hilarious YouTube vid: an accapella group called "Straight, No Chaser" doing the most amazing carol mashup I've ever heard. I cannot imagine the amount of practice to pull that off flawlessly. *runs straight to singers.com to check what else they have.*
Dude! There's going to be an anniversary special for To the Manor Born? Y'all with the capability to watch it have got to tell me what happens.
Purposefully vague for those who want to remain non-spoiled: I am all a-squee at the implication of the photos on Freemaagyeman.com
I love Slactivist: he takes no prisoners. This post is about a church charity that has been blocked from continuing their decade-long participation in a charity buying presents for the children of prisoners because their congregation isn't sufficiently homophobic. The UCC church is fighting back and mincing no words, and Fred is loading both verbal barrels as well. Great stuff. Finally, at the end of the day, does it really help or does it hinder the mission of Angel Tree Ministry to disqualify churches like ours on the basis of an anonymous giver being, as you suggest, deviant from Scripture? If you feel that it helps, then we are sad to say that you have your work cut out for you, because all of us sinners who breathe God’s good air deviate from Scripture every day. This includes everyone from our congregation to the well-intentioned members of the Prison Fellowship Board.
Torchwood TV has a cutely snarky article about the blocked import of the recently-announced Davros boxset of classic Who DVDs. The cited reason is "unable to get clearance." Clearance for WHAT? From WHOM? This is the second time the BBC has pulled back from sending material to the U.S. for vague reasons that sound remarkably like someone thinks a TV show/its commentary could possibly be a security problem. I am suddenly reminded of President Nixon demanding the cutting and destruction of the footage of "Cool, Considerate Men" from the movie 1776 because he thought it would incite riots or something. (The song, essentially a hymn of praise to radical conservatism, was duly cut from the movie although it and the other song Nixon wanted gone - Mama, Look Sharp where a woman looks for the body of her son on the battlefield - have never been removed from live performances. The footage was not, however, destroyed, and was restored to the Director's Cut edition DVD.)
Time to invest in those region-free players, people.
