President "No Child Left Behind" is leaving literacy behind: President Bush Eliminates Funding for Reading Is Fundamental’s Historic Book Distribution Program Yet another spit in the eye to this country and his own wife, the First Lady having been the one who inaugurated the Book Festival downtown every year.

In fandom, I'm watching the rumors about the "new" child-friendly, most-of-the-characters-gone version of Torchwood race around the Internet with my jaw on the floor. No, this is not a spoiler. This is bullshit. Yeah, RIGHT - BBC's going to gut a show that is bringing in gigantic ratings (and American revenue) and dump one of its most iconic characters so that the country that didn't forget Doctor Who for 16 years won't "forget" it during 10 months. Oh, and it has to be made "kiddie-safe" because there certainly isn't any other Whovian spinoff starring wildly popular characters that was aimed smack at the kids that did decent ratings and has also been sold to international markets.

Oh, please. Pull the other one, it hath bells upon. Why are people wasting their time doing anything other than pointing and laughing?

Nonspoilery comment on Torchwood: I think it's hilarious how they're throwing in gratuitous shots simply so they can be edited out for the "kid-friendly" version. I think it's doubly hilarious that you can tell which scenes are going to be cut depending on whether the characters are swearing or using euphemisms.

Does discussing teasers count as a spoiler? Well, I'll be vague - hands up everyone who is reminded of a certain Bradbury movie.
