There have been a lot of good panels at Malice, but the hands-down favorite was "You've Got Fan Mail" - and in that, although Charlene Harris told the one about the fan who said that she and her boyfriend acted out her sex scenes, Lindsey Davis and Peter Lovesey totally took the prize. Lindsey talked about how the first American edition of Silver Pigs didn't have "the" in it because the editor said that "Readers find the definite article too heavy." (This led to a run on the book - already sold out - in the dealer's room.) And Lovesey had a sheaf of the world's most hilarious letters, from the guy who picked a book of his to read based on "your picture with the charming smile... I have not read it yet, but I would like to meet you. Are you blonde, as the picture suggests?" to his stumped Japanese translator. "I ask you to please explain in simple words the following phrases:
'They liked to hang around in bars.' Is this a reference to gymnasiums?
'She drew upon her cigarette.' This seems quite difficult, and I cannot understand why she would draw upon them.
'They had a pint and a pork pie in the Duke of Wellington' ...

...

... I have no idea what this means."

Came home with a ton more books - the unusual ones tend to show up early on Saturday and late on Sunday. [livejournal.com profile] boogiebabe_smap, expect a pile in your living room at some point; I snagged you a couple of ancient historicals and a couple of dog books, and a couple I just thought you'd like.

F-list Roundup:

[livejournal.com profile] tavven has detailed descriptions from the Rift convention (A British Torchwood con). Gareth David-Lloyd is not worksafe. The Gareth David-Lloyd/James Marsters show even less so.

Video of the above. NSFW!!!!

*sigh* This has taken me long enough that it's time to go to bed without checking the other filters. And listening to people talk this weekend makes me sorry that I barely have time to keep up with my f-list, much less all the other networking places out there - OG, Ravelry, dorothy-l. (And yet, those seem to be the places where TPTB interface mostly with the fans.)

Still haven't worked out how to juggle online life with offline life.
