On the Eve of Flight
Dec. 27th, 2008 06:21 amOne quick bit of fannishness before the travel plans:
bf_listen_again, a sort of retroactive Big Finish audio club. Currently having a poll to see if they're going sequentially or not. (Personally, I don't want that even though I'll be going sequentially for Unreality SF. Or maybe I'll go by Doctor, just to break things up... Unreality's already got reviews out of order.)
But the real news: ENGLAND! TONIGHT!
The plans, which are subject to change without notice, are:
Sunday:
Arrive. Faceplant. See Big Ben. Then M is going to go find a double-decker bus highlights tour, while I'm going to surface in Piccadilly like a credit-card-waving gopher and start sequentially shopping my way down the street, from Fortnum and Mason through the Japan Center (bento goodies!) and probably finally overloading my ability to carry my swag at Waterstone's. If either of us can remain upright, we'll do the Jack the Ripper walking tour that night.
Monday:
Again splitting up - M to the Globe; me to the Earl's Court Dr. Who exhibit. Meet back up around 1 for Westminster Abbey. Leave very early for Hamlet (yes, we're still seeing it) so M can see Covent Garden in full blast and we can both shop the RSC shop before the play.
Tuesday: Birmingham and John Barrowman!
Wednesday:
Three big things today: Tower tour, British Museum (where we expect to spend most of the day), and the Jacobi 12th Night that evening. Probably much expresso, because the last train out of Birmingham gets us in disgustingly late.
Thursday: HAPPY NEW YEAR!
St. Paul's Cathedral to tour and hear the New Year chimes. The afternoon is up for grabs; probably a combo of shopping and "whatever we haven't seen enough of yet." If I haven't found the "Platform 9 3/4" sign in King's Cross, that's on the "must" list. A wine flight on the Eye in the early evening, followed by the Rowan Atkinson/Burn Gorman Oliver. ETA: and high tea at the Wolseley, if we can get a reservation.
Friday:
Paris! Onto the Chunnel train at a horrible hour in the morning, off to see San Chapelle and La Louvre, then shop. (The way I want to rip down Oxford Street is the way M wants to go through Paris.)
Saturday:
Pretty much straight back home. Bummer.
I stuffed my nano to within 12 Mb of its capacity... and now BF has sent me two shiny new plays *and* there's a new Staggering Stories that's got my letter. Time for some last-minute juggling!
