A couple of years ago, I set myself a goal - I was going to knit a throw based on the Rambling Row pattern. I remember happily stitching away at ChicagoTARDIS, talking to [livejournal.com profile] jennetj and [livejournal.com profile] nnwest. I finished every block, declared success on LJ, and put the pieces away to be stitched together... sometime.

I found the bag of pieces today.

I'm going to unpick every stitch and turn all that soft Svale into socks.

While poking around instead of doing chores, I found the relics of Jr year abroad. Specifically, the currency I'd set aside because it was, to American eyes, interesting or unique.

Time and the European union being what they are, none of it actually qualifies as *money* anymore, while at the same time not being old enough to be valuable. (Although possibly one or two of the George coins may be. In the 80s, the eagle-eyed person could still pick coins with George on them out of their pocket change, just as Bicentennial quarters are still floating around here.)

The pound notes from Scotland, Ireland, and England are probably going to be laminated and used as bookmarks. But what to do with the pfennig, Deutsche marks, francs, and "new pence," much less that big honker with the glorious inscription "two shillings?"

ETA: Oh golly, there's a Charles and Diana commemorative coin! It's like finding a boarding pass from the Titanic.
