I've been trying to get caught up on Sherlock stuff for *three days,* dagnabbit, and have been fandom-blocked every time. So now a huge catch up of stuff. (Also? If I do a link salad like this every few days, I can do all the loading to Tubso once a week instead of it eating up far too much time every night. Or that's the theory.)

Fascinating discussion of Sherlock's asexuality, in BBC canon with references back to the original canon (in which he could either be quietly coded as gay or asexual). Side discussions of what BBC Sherlock would consider a relationship (i.e., is he aromantic or romantic?) Even longer thread on asexual fans who dig slash fic and examining that. Shitload of fic recs in comments, dealing with the entire possible spectrum of Sherlock's asexuality (can't stand it/will do it for love/is struggling to figure himself out). Also some pretty damn hot commentfic on page 2.

[livejournal.com profile] emungere's There and Back Again & sequel And What Happened After, a quiet slice of John-Sherlock ship after The Great Game. They're more sweet than slashy and not particularly plotty, but I keep coming back to them for lines like
The thought came into John’s mind out of nowhere, or out of two months of watching Sherlock expect to get smacked down at every turn and mostly getting what he expected: I am going to kill anyone who hurts him.

But they're still so very much in character:

John had bought a mini-fridge that sat in the corner of the kitchen and contained their milk, mustard, and a few disintegrating vegetables. John had put a sign on the door that said: FOOD ONLY and then added another underneath that said: by which I mean only things you personally intend to eat or reasonably believe I might want to eat. The final sign simply read: NO HUMAN BODY PARTS, EVER.

The Sherlock vid to "I'll Make A Man Out of You" from Mulan, which I did not expect to work, but then I got mad giggles on the visual for "Boy, I really wish that I knew how to swim."

Unusual Symmetry, one of the asexuality fics. (I'm not sure it counts as Sherlock/John if only one of them is getting off.)
It was a waste of time to compromise on things that didn't really matter. It only meant that Sherlock had to put up with fools longer before they ran into the massive wall of things that Sherlock would surely never compromise on.

Sam_storyteller on DW with It's Not the Violin. ( A gen story! A gen story!) Slice of life. Mostly known as "that one where Sherlock plays Lady Gaga on the violin for John," although there's more to it than that.

Two Doctors Walk Into a Pub, in which John Watson makes friends with that new woman at the pub, Martha Jones. (Just typing that was totally awesome.)
One drink turned into two, turned into…many, and the conversation suddenly (and without warning) veered into territory he’d been desperately trying to avoid. They’d started discussing unrequited love, lust, and tension. From there, it had quickly come to light that they both fancied tall, skinny geniuses with a penchant for tight suits, dramatic jackets, and superiority complexes who couldn’t be bothered with (or didn’t understand) the feelings of those around them.

The Rabbit Hops Over the Log, a Mycroft's eye view of trying to raise a difficult, damaged younger brother.
By Mycroft's classification system, his brother had about a dozen very distinct ways of screaming. This one was undoubtedly #5, Touch Me Again and I Will Bite Your Hand Off.

This last one isn't a rec; it's an archive so I can come back and read the whole thing now that it's done: Part 1 of You Can Imagine the Christmas Dinners. Has anyone been following this? Is it worth a read? Because to be honest, to get the links I'm passing on, I'm reading fic that I'm regretting. BBC Sherlock desperately needs an archive where you can search by story type and tone.
