In which Nea babbles randomly
Feb. 7th, 2011 08:46 pmWatched The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes last night. No wonder Moffat and Gatiss like it. Holmes is quite snarky.
I'm trying to figure out why I have no tolerance for AUs of the Victorian Holmes and Watson, but I am learning to adore AUs of Sherlock and John. (Shush, I know that Sherlock is an AU of canon. If I could figure this out, I wouldn't be nattering about it on LJ trying to solve it through my keyboard.) Maybe it's because Holmes and Watson have been entrenched for over a century in a world where it is always 1895 and trying to move Victorian men into a different era *while keeping them Victorian men* is just... wrong. (I'm looking at you, WWII movies, Sherlock Holmes in the 22nd Century, etc.)
Whereas Sherlock and John are newer takes on the same concept, without all that fannish baggage, so it's easier to imagine them in different combinations and ages. Maybe it's because
etothepii is so damned good at going "what if...?" that it's made me stop being snotty about AUs on principle.
I don't know, but I do know that I'm going to keep hitting "refresh" like a rat trying to earn feed pellets until Family Affairs finishes and I can rec it. Not only have I gotten sucked into an AU, I've gotten sucked into *unfinished* fic. I NEVER read unfinished fic!because I've got to have a life that doesn't include hitting "refresh" like a rat trying to earn feed pellets.
In the meantime, I'm supposed to be typing up 3 reviews and reading Scandal in Bohemia and writing up my thoughts. What I'm going to do is go the heck to bed.
