Goodbye Sarah Jane Smith
Apr. 19th, 2011 06:57 pmI could talk about how happy I was to meet Lis Sladen at ChicagoTARDIS and how gracious she was.
I could talk about my memories of Doctor Who.
I could talk about how much I enjoy(ed) The Sarah Jane Adventures, which was classic Who reborn.
Instead, I'm just going to say this: She was THE companion. She bridged the turn of Three into Four, then old Who into new Who. She became the Doctor character in her own spinoff. And she's never been out of the top five - usually no lower than #2 - in the companion popularity poll for thirty years.
I know her career spanned far more than the Whoniverse. But that's a legacy that damnfew actors can leave behind. Nick, no matter how beloved, can't claim that. Not even any of the actors playing the Doctor can claim it.
Well done, Ms. Sladen.
When you catch up with Nick, Ian, and Jon, they'd better buy you a round.
