Oh, FFS: Thing One and Thing Two
Aug. 25th, 2011 08:20 pmThe Baker Street Supper Club announces that "This autumn BBC Books will be releasing two original Sherlock Holmes adventures to tie-in to the BBC series."
Thing One: They aren't "original" books, they're Doyle's Study in Scarlet and The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes with introductions by Moffat and Gatiss.
Thing Two (and I say this as a fan of both versions): Tongue cannot tell how dumbass a maneuver it is to put Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman on the covers of Victorian-era books. I don't care how badly the BBC wants to cash in on a hot property, that amounts to false advertising for both canon and modern-era fans.
I'd love to read the introductions themselves - Moffat and Gatiss are fascinating when they geek out like the Holmesian fanboys they are - but FFS!
