The State of the Nea
Jan. 16th, 2012 06:47 amThe next few days are going to be a blur and I'm not going to be able to catch up on reading/commenting from *yesterday* until tonight, but just so them as cares to know do:
1) I've submitted my review to Robert Smith? for his latest book.
2) I've heard back from the racism in Who editor - my essay has been accepted; edits are now under discussion.
3) My throat is getting better now that I'm on stomach meds. Which means that I have to start rearranging my diet re: acid reflux, seriously lose weight, etc. Bleh. But I'll be able to sing again soon, when my throat finally heals.
4) I got a call on Friday from Traveller's Insurance saying that my insurance company had contacted them, and could I please call and provide some details regarding an accident in August? The I-thought-he-was-uninsured guy hit me on August 31, and y'all don't know how happy I am that I kept a very detailed file at the time of who, what, when, how much, and what was said. I would love to get my car finally fixed - I wasn't yet, not with my insurance deleting my deductible for *being* hit!
5) Have received my Visa bill and yes, there was a blatantly false charge back on Dec. 10 - seriously, WHY did fraud alert not call me when I made a charge in the US and then a few hours later the number was used to buy $100 worth of phone cards in AUSTRALIA? They twig when a phone call is made from the US to England via Google *three weeks later* but not that? M got hit for the same charge from the same continent on the same day; we're trying to figure out WTF is going on.
6) I am going to refuse any more new writing commissions until the kitchen is renovated; I am seriously considering ripping out the bathroom vanity that I've never liked at the same time. (If I'm ripping out and replacing one set of base cabinets and a countertop, adding a second set can't raise the price too badly. And I've never liked that vanity.) I'm trying to spin the work so that the kitchen is done by the first full weekend in June, with the bathroom to follow by the end of July 4. And *then* I can start planning the house rewarming party!
And that's the state of the Nea.
