neadods: (reading)
I haven't read anything for the entire last week, so catching up tonight/tomorrow's going to be scary. Before I tackle Mount Slashfic, let me clear the decks of what I've been sitting on.

ASSUME S2 SPOILERS IN ALL LINKS UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE

Sales Offer (Non-spoiler)
The BBC Shop is selling the canon as a 3-for-2 deal through the end of February. The good news: they have intros by Moffat, Gatiss, Cumberbatch, etc. The bad news: half the books aren't in print yet. The worse news: they're all titled as Sherlock: A Study in Scarlet; Sherlock: The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes; etc., and have pictures of Cumberbatch and Freeman on the cover. I want to read the intros, but that packaging and retitling makes my soul die a little bit.

Essays, Commentaries, Interviews A lot of essays I wanted to pass on
Holmes and Watson: Who Needed Who The Most? Spoiler status: YMMV. (The illo is from Granada; there are two quotes from BASK, but one of *them* is direct from canon.)
Partnership is an interesting word to use, inferring a degree of equality and co-dependency. Modern adaptations have demonstrated this dependency in different ways – compare the childlike, needy petulance of Robert Downey Jnr to the lonely ex soldier helping a person of questionable mental health relationship between Sherlock and John in BBC Sherlock.

Sherlock Fans Create DIY Guerilla Marketing Campaign It's about the I Believe in Sherlock movement and how it's spreading. (Fans holding signs now posting from France and China; this movement has legs)

The Real Woman: Why Molly Hooper is the One Who Counts *Fabulous* essay defending Molly.
There is a trend in media for strong women who are outwardly so. They are witty, snarky, toned, and know how to hold a gun. The role model being pushed is that of the ultimate woman. It’s progress – I wouldn’t trade River Song for a hundred people from Hollywood’s past – but ... there’s no variety – only one mould to fit ourselves into. ... Molly Hooper is, finally, different. Molly Hooper is kind, thoughtful, always smiling, and intelligent ... [she] remembers little details because everything someone says is important. There are spoilers galore, but this essay really made me look at Molly in a different light.

Moffat interview: The Man Who We are in the golden age of the geek... With Doctor Who, I’m thinking of how I can get people to be scared, I suppose; what’s the monster this week, what’s the adventure, what’s the fastest way we can start the story, how soon can I get Matt Smith [the actor behind the current Doctor] running is probably the focus there.”

“Sherlock is different, because Mark [Gatiss, co-creator of Sherlock] and I sit around wondering which one are we going to do this year, which bits of the original haven’t been touched, and there’s quite a lot of Sherlock Holmes that hasn’t been touched. We’ve had considerable success just by mining the bits people don’t usually do … I mean, we got such credit for having the first time we see Sherlock Holmes he’s flogging a corpse, and people said how amazing and clever we were but the truth is the first time Sherlock Holmes is mentioned in the first Sherlock Holmes story that’s exactly what he’s doing.

The Sound of Sherlock All about making the music for S2.

Also from Sherlockology, The speeches from the Sherlock Holmes Society [of London] Dinner Gatiss is a member; Moffat was the guest speaker. I'm sorry I wasn't there, the transcript is HILARIOUS! Only spoilery if you are avoiding which canon stories S2 is based on.
“However on behalf of my wife Sue Vertue and I, and my other wife Mark Gatiss (drowned out by cheers) it was an almighty heresy to take Sherlock Holmes and put him into the present day and I remember in 2006, Mark Gatiss took me as his date to this very occasion and announced our intention to update Sherlock Holmes. I felt confident that he would be lynched! I was ready to stand shoulder to shoulder and say, “HIM, not me!”

Creating 221B Baker Street Article about decorating the set. Only spoiler: a single line from FALL that was taken from canon.

Art, Non-spoiler
Nice promo shot of the Holmes boys

Art; SPOILER (and cracky) [Bad username or unknown identity: redscharlach has been busy. 'nuff said. <a href=]Sherlympics events I think we've all signed up for "long distance adoration."

Also, S2 mini icons

For the non-cracky side, a gorgeous portrait of Sherlock Costume spoiler.

Vids
Lestrade lovin'! Lestrade vid to You Sexy Thing I endorse this concept.

Fic, NON SPOILER
I'm going to save time and give you this one link to two stories and the podfics thereof. The walls between times (realities?) grow thin; one fic is modern John slipping back to see Victorian era Holmes; the other is Victorian Watson slipping forward. (I believe that these links are particularly relevant to one reader's interests.)

Fic, SPOILER
Putting the Pieces Together: part 1 & part 2. John-centric post-FALL piece.

Fight or Flight Molly writes a series of unsent letters after FALL. A nice bookend to the essay above; this shows her empathy and fortitude nicely.

I've overcooked the pork loin. As I'd browned it in bacon fat, studded it with dried apples, slathered it with two kinds of wet mustard, and topped it with bacon slices before braising it in cider, this isn't a particularly big calamity, because it's still mighty fine.

Still, next time I won't use the oven, I'll use that crock pot with a temperature probe.
